CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Casper) – At approximately 7:40 PM, Casper Fire-EMS was dispatched to a structure fire in the 700 block of East E Street. Callers indicated there was dark smoke and flames visible on the roof of a structure. On arrival, crews found fire and smoke from the roof area on the backside of a large commercial structure. As firefighters gained access to the roof, other crews forced entry. Once inside, they found an industrial process furnace that appeared to be overheated including the venting system going through the roof. Some charring was noted in structural components in the roof structure but no active fire. After a short time, a representative of the business arrived and was able to properly shut the furnace down. The area was checked by firefighters and determined that no additional extinguishment was needed.
There were no occupants in the building at the time of the fire. There were no injuries reported as a result.
Damage to the building is minimal and it is unknown if there is any damage to the furnace and vent system that will require repair. Additional investigation will take place when the furnace and its components cool.
Initially, 5 Engines, 1 Truck and the on-duty Battalion Chief responded. Additionally, one Deputy Chief and an Investigator from Mills Fire Department responded. They were assisted by Casper Public Safety Communications Center, Casper Police, Wyoming Medical Center, Black Hills Energy and Rocky Mountain Power
