Furnace Fest has announced the second wave of acts for its 2022 lineup, including Mastodon, Thrice, Manchester Orchestra, Descendents, The Story So Far, Cursive and In Flames.
The new list of performers, revealed by organizers on Friday, also includes Midtown, Four Year Strong, Strike Anywhere, Sick of it All, Agnostic Front, Stick to Your Guns, Figure Four, Comeback Kid and Norma Jean.
A total of 63 acts were added to the lineup for the music festival, set for Sept. 23-25 at Sloss Furnaces, 20 32nd St. North in Birmingham.
Furnace Fest previously announced 30 acts for 2022, including New Found Glory, The Ghost Inside, Alexisonfire, Anti-Flag, Pedro the Lion, The Joy Formidable, Stretch Armstrong, Earth Crisis, Elliott, Kublai Khan TX, Nothing, Shadows Fall, Strike Anywhere, Wristmeetrazor, Demon Hunter, Lagwagon, Misery Signals and Quicksand.
Furnace Fest, which focuses on heavy rock, thrash, punk and metal, will present more than 90 acts on three stages over its weekend span. A few more names are set to be announced later this year.
Tickets for Furnace Fest are on sale via the festival website, priced at $249 for three-day general admission. Two service fees attached to the tickets cost $37.57. The price will increase $269 on April 1, plus service fees, according to a March 18 post on the Furnace Fest Facebook page.
Furnace Fest — a revival of a “DIY punk rock festival” that was held in Birmingham from 2000 to 2003 — made its return in 2021, with a lineup of about 90 bands that included headliners Underoath, Taking Back Sunday and Killswitch Engage. The rebooted festival originally was scheduled for September 2020, but was postponed due to the pandemic.
Furnace Fest organizers are Johnny Grimes, who lives in Birmingham; Chad Johnson and Ryan Luther, both of whom are in Nashville; and Mike Ziemer of Dallas.
Furnace Fest was the first sizable music festival in Birmingham — and one of the first in Alabama — to announce a 2021 admission policy that required negative COVID tests for unvaccinated ticketholders. There’s no word yet on COVID guidelines for the 2022 event.
