Margao: The PWD, National Highways have dashed off a letter to the contractor who had hot mixed the Margao roads to undertake repairs of the damaged road during the dry spell.
Executive Engineer, PWD, NH Dattaprasad Kamat informed that the PWD has sent an official letter to the contractor to repair the damaged portion of the newly-hot mixed roads.
Saying the roads could have been damaged due to a host of reasons, Kamat, however, said the contractor will take up the work as per the Defect Liability Period (DLP), saying the government will not bear the cost of the repair work.
“The contractor will execute the repair work as per the three-year defect liability period. This means the contractor is liable to carry out the repair work for the next three years,” he said, adding that the damaged road will be repaired during the dry spell.
Asked how come the road has been damaged just two months after the hot mixing, Kamat said the reasons could be many, including heating and laying the carpet during the night.
He, however, denied that only one layer of the hot mix was laid on the highway road passing through the city, saying the national highway norms mandated the laying of two layers of hot mix.
Questions are being raised about whether the repair work will restore the road to its original condition or if it will only make the road accident-prone and bumpy as was the situation for the last three years.
Citizens and motorists had a bitter experience in driving on the city roads, around the Margao Municipal Garden, which was dotted with potholes within a year after its hot mixing.
