TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – A furnace fire caused minimal damage late Wednesday morning at an East Topeka townhouse, authorities said.

The blaze was reported around 11:10 a.m. at a residence at 2607 S.E. 25th, in the Colonial Park Townhomes.

Light smoke was reported showing when first-arriving firefighters arrived on the scene.

Topeka Fire Department officials said at the scene that maintenance workers were making repairs on a furnace in the unit.

The maintenance workers had left for a short time to get a part for the furnace, fire officials said. When they returned, the furnace was on fire.

Damage from the fire was contained to the furnace, though smoke was present in the two-story townhouse.

After the furnace fire was extinguished, Topeka Fire Department crews used fans to ventilate the residence of smoke.

The townhome’s occupants were expected to be able to stay in their home, fire officials said.

No injuries were reported and there were no immediate reports of a dollar loss in the fire.
