- From tasting facilities to air-conditioning, several features will be added to these shops
New Delhi: The national capital will now have air-conditioned liquor outlets with tasting facilities. With a new excise regime kicking in, Delhi might see an increase in wholesale liquor prices by 8-9 per cent.
Mirror Now’s Alok Singh reported that as part of its liquor policy, the Delhi government wants to open more shops across the capital. He said that now, there will be no government shops as private vendors will own these outlets.
Congress Party stages protest
Initially, there were nearly 900 liquor shops in Delhi and now, all these shops will be owned by private vendors. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress Party have launched attacks on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), accusing it of issuing licences to people who are opening shops in residential areas.
Singh, who was reporting from Sitaram Bazar in Chandni Chowk, said that the Congress Party has been protesting in front of a dairy shop that will be converted to a liquor outlet, under the new excise rule.
One of the protestors said, “Arvind Kejriwal is converting a dairy shop into a liquor vend. The same Kejriwal who spoke of Swaraj – which states that if a liquor shop is being opened in an area, the RWA, residents and others concerned must be involved in the process – has opened three liquor shops per ward. Why is Delhi being turned into the capital of alcoholism? Delhi Congress does not support this. “
