PLYMOUTH – A town resident received a new hot air furnace Tuesday thanks to a donation by The Oil Energy Service Professionals.

The furnace went to the home of resident Carol Bressette. Town Councilor Dan Gentile, who was a former president of the Oil and Energy Service Professionals, delivered it with Chris and Frank Vierra of Andy’s Oil.

“It was an older unit, about 20 years old, and there was a crack in the heat exchanger,” explained Gentile. “This new unit will be a lot more efficient.”

The money for the new unit came from the “Oil Heat Cares” fund, which Gentile said has been assisting mostly older or physically impaired oil heat customers since the late 1980s.

“It has probably provided hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of work since it was established,” said Gentile. “It’s what the oil industry does; we take care of people that burn oil.”

Frank Vierra added that he is “glad to help.”

Gentile said that he is especially glad to have assisted Bressette, whom he said is a frequent volunteer in the community.

“I work in the Salvation Army soup kitchen on Monday, Wednesday and Friday,” said Bressette. “I guess it all comes back around.”

Bressette had been helping a local technician by taking his grandfather to doctor’s appointments. The technician helped to keep her old boiler functioning, but she said that she doubted that it would have made it through another winter.

Bressette thanked everyone who made it possible for her to get a new furnace.

“I met with Trish (Patricia Hale) in the mayor’s office to see if I could qualify for reduced loans,” said Bressette. “She introduced me to Dan who said that I could apply to the fund. He’s a politician that’s working for the people. This is a real blessing. This would have been really tough for me.”
