MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The heat is pushing just about everyone to crank up their air conditioner, but what if your A/C unit goes out?
A local HVAC company told FOX13 that you may have to wait longer than you’d like on repairs.
The Call center at Choate’s Air Conditioning, Heating and Plumbing was flooded with calls Monday afternoon.
“Phones are ringing off the hook,” said Jason Smith, Choate’s Air Conditioning, Heating and Plumbing commercial manager. “We’re booked three to five days out for some customers.”
Smith said they prioritize repairs based on need, not strictly by order of requests.
”We definitely want to make sure we’re taking care of our elderly, our infants, our pregnant mothers,” said Smith.
Smith said many A/C unit repairs are made within a day. However, they have run into supply chain issues, pushing back some repairs.
“A lot of motors are hard to get in right now, blower motors specifically,” said Smith.
To ensure this isn’t an issue you face, Smith says you must get your unit inspected and cleaned at least once a year.
He also said to change out the filter every 60 to 90 days.
”In cooling season, to come out, service, professionally chemically clean that unit and change each filter,” said Smith.
Smith said if they cannot repair your unit within a reasonable amount of time because an item is on back order, they will provide window units until the repair is made.
