PARKERSBURG — The city of Parkersburg is accepting applications for its 2022 emergency home repair program.
A grant of up to $6,000 is available to help with specific repairs that eliminate conditions that adversely affect the safety and health of home occupants.
Eligible repairs include, but are not limited to, serious roof problems due to wind, tree, or fire damage; Repair or replacement of a heating system in winter (October 1 to May 15); Air conditioning in summer (May 16 to Sept 30) with written letter from a licensed physician that air conditioning is medically required; electrical problems that pose a fire or safety hazard; Plumbing systems that require immediate repair to avoid serious water damage to the structure; or replacing a water utility to get a clean, safe source of water.
The home must be within the Parkersburg city limits and occupied by the owner. Eligible participants must be 60% or less of the median area income as defined by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The program is made possible through the state Community Development Block Grant Program and is designed to provide households with an emergency repair on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants do not have to repay any part of the scholarship.
