Cyber fraudsters have duped a government employee of Rs 92,000 on the pretext of repairing an AC in the Capital city. The matter came to the fore after the victim, Prashant Mohanty, lodged a complaint in this connection with the Cyber police on Saturday.
According to sources, the cyber crooks sent a link to Mohanty and asked him to register himself in order to avail the AC repair service. No sooner, he registered himself via the link, a total amount of Rs 92000 that was in his bank account vanished automatically.
“I downloaded an app called ‘Urban Company’ from playstore and followed the procedure to register because I have seen the company’s ad on TV, Facebook and other social media platforms. However, when I tried to pay the registration fees of Rs 649, it was unsuccessful. Soon, I received a call from a person who claimed to be an employee of the company. When I followed his instructions, a total of Rs 92,000 was deducted from my bank account,” said Prashant.
Acting on a complaint, the Cyber police registered a case and launched a probe into the incident.
