Daikin Comfort Technologies Manufacturing, formerly Goodman Manufacturing Co., has expanded a recall of evaporator coil drain pans first issued in November 2021 amid a fire risk.

The recall was expanded Thursday to include drain pans installed with non-condensing gas furnaces.
Per the recall notice, issued in concert with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the molded plastic drain pan located at the bottom of the evaporator coil can overheat, melt and deform, prompting the fire hazard.
The recall affects more than 298,000 units sold in the United States and another 44,000 units sold in Canada.
Daikin has fielded 26 reports to date of fire involving evaporator coil drain pans, including three reports of fire since the initial recall was announced in November 2021. Several of these incidents have resulted in significant fire and smoke damage to residences. No injuries have been reported, the notice stated.
The affected models were sold by independent heating and cooling dealers nationwide from January 2019 through November 2021 for between $200 and $1,200 per unit.
Consumers are advised to contact Daikin to determine whether your unit is included in this recall and to register for the free repair by a qualified technician. Daikin is contacting all registered consumers where records indicate their gas furnace system is subject to the expanded recall.
