Milford Housing Development Corporation’s Home Repair Program has been awarded a Repairing, Replacing Heaters and Conserving Energy Grant through the Delaware Department of Health and Human Services. This grant enables qualified low-income homeowners statewide to receive services for repairs and replacement of heating systems that are non-functioning or inefficient.
In 2021, the MHDC project completed repairs and/or rehabilitations on about 225 homes in all three Delaware counties. Using grant funds from private and government entities, churches, groups and individual donors, the home repair project assisted low-income Delaware homeowners by correcting conditions that posed an immediate threat to the health and/or safety of the homes’ residents.
With the grant funds, a broader scope of projects can be completed. The home repair project was started in 1991 by two individuals who believed that Delawareans would be willing to reach out to assist neighbors in need. Each year the need grows. This year, the project will mark its 31st year of serving the home repair needs of low-income Delawareans.
