EDWARDSVILLE – The Madison County Board has approved an agreement and funding resolution with the city of Alton and Illinois Department of Transportation to provide $100,000 in matching funds for the repair of the Brown Street Bridge over Rock Spring Creek.
The project includes inserting new precast box culverts into the existing structure and extending those new box culverts, replacing the existing roadway, and new sidewalks and guardrails.
The board also approved a new “agreement of understanding” with IDOT for Motor Fuel Tax Fund expenditures. The last agreement, from November 2016, was with now retired County Engineer Mark Gvillo, and the new agreement updates to include County Engineer Adam J. Walden.
Other board actions included:
• Awarding a contract for construction of force main improvements in the Madison County Special Service Area No. 1 at a cost of $132,110. The low bidder was Haier Plumbing & Heating Inc. of Okawville.
• Approved a resolution to purchase two pumps for upgrades to a lift station in the Special Service Area at a cost of $49,100. The sole bidder was Vandevanter Engineering of Fenton, Missouri.
• Setting Monday, June 20 as the observance of the Juneteenth holiday.
• Approving was the establishment by the Madison County Health Department of substance abuse, mental health and access to care as its community health priorities through 2026.
