ATLANTA — Older furnaces are breaking down all over the metro area because of the bitter cold. “The ones we really have problems with are the older ones,” HVAC Service Technician Josh Smith said.
Smith works for R.S. Andrews, one of the many metro area heating and cooling companies trying to keep up with all the customer calls about having no heat.

“We’re completely full on our capacity today. Our on-call crews will run all night,” R.S. Andrews HVAC Manager Andrew Navarro said. The company has been getting over 100 phone calls a day since Tuesday, and they really picked up from Thursday night.
“We’re doing everything we can to get to as many calls as we can over the next few days,” Navarro said.

The company will install 20 new furnaces before Friday is done. The parts to fix all the other ones are lined up and ready to be taken to the job sites. Smith says if a customer has no heat, odds are it’s due to a very old furnace.
“It’s not going to take much more than a really cold winter or cold couple of days to have it break down,” Smith said.
