Two Alpena-area entities will benefit from a state program supporting housing repairs and upgrades that lower energy costs for residents.
Northeast Michigan Community Service Agency will receive $200,000 and the Alpena County Home Improvement Program will receive $250,000 as part of a $10 million award from the Michigan Housing Opportunities Promoting Energy Efficiency (Mi-HOPE) program, launched in part by the Michigan State Housing Development Authority .
Those awards, announced on Monday, will help the agencies help homeowners repair roofs, insulate walls, replace heating systems, and make other fixes to increase energy efficiency and lower utility bills.
The state intends to announce a second round of funding in spring. Those hoping for help paying for home repairs can call 211 to be connected to the appropriate servicing agency.
