QUINCY (WGEM) – If you need to get your furnace fixed, you will still probably be able to get that done on the same day, but that might not be the case for long.
That’s because of the continued labor shortage, and now the onslaught of bitterly-cold temperatures.
Peters Heating and Air Conditioning service department manager Adam Peters said they have been getting more and more service calls this week, which means you could be waiting longer and longer for them to get to you.
That is why he said you should try to prevent a furnace shut down because when the heat goes out, your pipes could freeze.
“It’s everything. If you don’t have it, you’re looking at ruining your house as far as pipes bursting,” Peters said. “If you have a unit in the attic, make sure the drains are working properly and they have the proper safety switches in them otherwise you could have ceilings cave in due to water damage. Things like that are certainly more prevalent in the winter time.”
So, how do know that your furnace might be on the fritz? Peters said the heat might go on and off intermittently, or you might see a two-to-three degree temperature drop.
Then, how do you keep your furnace in good shape? Peters said make sure your filter is clean and your vents are clear.
If your furnace does break down, Peters said be prepared to pay hundreds for a repair, or even thousands for a replacement.
