BRIDGEWATER, NJ – Darlene Mc Mahon, mother of two disabled girls in Bridgewater, seeks help from the community after her oven broke and they were unable to fix it.
Darlene Mc Mahon used social media to set up a fundraiser in hopes of raising $ 5,000 to cover the cost of a new oven and installation at her ex-husband’s home in Bridgewater, where her 24th birthday year old twin girls live.
The stove broke two winters ago and cannot be repaired. A technician advised the family that they needed a new oven. The cost of a new furnace with installation is between $ 5,000 and $ 7,000.
“My ex-husband is semi-retired and recently started working part-time. But they had no heat all last winter with a couple of electric heaters,” said Mc Mahon.
Mc Mahon says she keeps bringing her girls home to her because the electric heaters aren’t doing enough.
“When I came over, they would sit there with a scarf and coat and blankets. That makes me very emotional,” said Mc Mahon.
Mc Mahon went to Facebook to set up a fundraiser in hopes of getting help.
“This year is brutal. I’ve always been their main caregiver, but I have a steady income. I’ve tried calling social services and looking around. I’m not one of those asking about things, but when it comes to my kids, it is that’s another story, “said Mc Mahon.
Both of Mc Mahon’s daughters are Bridgewater-Rartian High School graduates, and Mc Mahon is reaching out to the community for help keeping their girls warm during the winter.
