Contractor dragging feet on AC repair works at Ravindra Bhavan

Member Secy writes to PWD to ensure work is expedited

MARGAO: Taking keen interest in tiatr and other theatre activities, Agnelo Fernandes, Member Secretary of Ravindra Bhavan-Margao urged the Public Works Department (PWD) to expedite the matter of installation of screw chiller for central AC at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao.

Fernandes said that inorder to ensure that tiatr shows and other theatre activities begins in full swing, the works needs to be completed on war footings. 

Shockingly, the concerned company is yet to commence the work, as the date of completion is approaches near. PWD has asked the contractor to complete the work by September 22.  

Presently, tiatr fraternity and other performing artistes are struggling to organise their shows, in absence of the AC in the main auditorium of the Ravindra Bhavan. 

It is pertinent to note that upon the continued follow up, PWD had issued an order to the M/s Escube Air-conditioning Private Limited to ensure timely completion of the supply, installation, testing and commissioning of screw chiller for central air-conditioning plant at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao within the stipulated date of September 22.  

Fernandes further said “The concerned company has been informed that Ravindra Bhavan is interested in completion of the work at the earliest as the auditorium is used by the general public for functions. And hence on the backdrop of not commencing the work, we have written a letter to the PWD on September 13 to expedite the matter.”

He has even brought to the notice of the authorities that due to the breakdown in AC several programs had been cancelled and all further bookings have been suspended. 

Meanwhile, upon the initiative of the Member Secretary, PWD has prepared an estimate of nearly Rs. 7.60 lakh to provide ramps and handrail accessibilities for the persons with disability in Ravindra Bhavan, Margao.
