CHESTER COUNTY, SC (CN2 NEWS) – Seniors in need of home repair in the Chester County area look no further. Several organizations come together to help seniors with large and small repairs.
As the Chester County’s population ages, more and more seniors need repairs and solutions to help them grow older in their homes.
Angela Douglas is responsible for public engagement and public relations for the project and says, “It’s a small, picturesque community. A district with 30,000 to 32,000 inhabitants, and we want to make sure that our seniors are well looked after. “
Community outreach groups like SC Uplift and Community Outreach are working with community partners to use a $ 1 million grant through programs with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and HUD to help adults age 62 and older with their housing needs.
SC Uplift and Community Outreaches President and CEO Kevin Wimberly said, “We have been able to assess seniors, people who meet their income needs and own their homes, and make the much needed repairs – what they can. not afford. Roof repairs, heating and ventilation systems, electrics, floors, things like that. “
These partners want to help at least 10 seniors of this community age as safely and independently as possible on site.
“And we will use our partner organizations. I-58, a local non-profit here in Chester that oversees the operation of the program and then uses Sweet 65 LLC, will do the house appraisals, “says Wimberly.
Here are some of the houses the organization has repaired. In addition to assessing the needs of the retirement home, an occupational therapist will also perform a health check-up to see what else is needed, such as ramps, shower rails, guardrails and more.
Leslie Brakefield of I-58 says, “There are three requirements. You have to be the owner and resident of the house, you have to be 62 years or older and then there is an income limit that you have to stay below. “
Chester’s leaders say the seniors they work with are always grateful.
“It’s a pleasure to bring such programs with us and to work with these good partners to make sure we not only care for our neighbors but can love them from start to finish,” says Douglas.
