Four buildings in the Wilmette Public Schools District 39 were given approval by the district’s board of education to go forward with summer 2023 construction projects to add classroom air conditioning.
Classrooms in Central Elementary, Harper Elementary, Highcrest Middle School and Romona Elementary are set to be upgraded along with the auditoriums at Central and Romona elementary schools and the gymnasium at Central.
Once completed, these projects will bring air conditioning to nearly all the district’s classrooms for the 2023-2024 school year. Only a portion of Wilmette Junior High School still remains unimproved with the expectation that it will be completed in 2025.
Superintendent Dr. Kari Cremascoli said in a news release that the projects will go a long way to improving the health and safety of students while they attend classes with the district.
“I am extremely grateful to our Board for recognizing the need and supporting these projects,” Cresmascoli said. “We are always working to create the best possible environment for teaching and learning in order to best position our students for success.”
The news release said the district serves 3,500 students across Wilmette and Glencoe and construction will begin in summer 2023.
