The Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB) is considering a list of six new facility renovation projects, including a school renewal at St. John Catholic Elementary School and a track renewal at Corpus Christi Catholic Secondary School.

The cost of the cosmetic refreshment and mechanical replacement projects at St. John is expected to be around $ 1.1 million.

Several wearing parts across the school need to be repaired or replaced. The work does not include lighting, which was replaced in 2016.

Interior components that receive upgrades include painting common areas, gym floors, classroom doors, lockers, classroom floors, and some paintwork.

The schools’ heat pumps, which supply the individual rooms with heating and cooling, were installed in 1995 and have reached their 20-year useful life.

These units are prone to failure and replacing those who have exceeded their life expectancy will allow the board to benefit from economies of scale and prevent future prolonged disruptions to the learning environment.

The boilers installed in St. John in 1995 have also exceeded their useful life and must be replaced. They would be replaced by modern, highly efficient boilers in order to reduce maintenance and energy costs.

The estimated cost of replacing the 400-meter line at Corpus Christie is $ 300,000. The school’s rubberized road surface, installed in 2008, has reached its expected lifespan and needs to be replaced.

The old, rubberized rail is removed to enable repairs to the existing substructure and the installation of a new surface.

The projects at both schools should be completed by summer 2022.

These renewal projects are part of the HCDSB’s long-term capital plan, which is a comprehensive school housing plan along with school renewal requirements to improve the conditions of school facilities across the board over a five-year planning window (2021-2025).

The total estimated cost of working in St. John, Corpus Christie, and the other four proposed school projects combined is $ 6.75 million.

The cost of the proposed 2022 Facility Renewal Projects will be funded by the Board’s available capital allocations and reserves.

The HCDSB currently has $ 14.5 million in available capital resources.

The resolutions will be presented to the HCDSB trustee for review and approval at the ordinary meeting on November 16.
