European researchers have developed an injectable hydrogel that can help repair and prevent further heart muscle damage after a heart attack.
The therapeutic effect of multiple injections of this hydrogel into the heart tissue was investigated during the first preclinical study of its kind and, according to researchers at CÚRAM, the SFI medical device research center, showed its effectiveness in remodeling heart tissue after a heart attack at the National University of Ireland in Galway and in the BIOFORGE Lab at the University of Valladolid in Spain. The results of their research have just been published in Science Translational Medicine.
