Very last Wednesday, July 7th, a whole of 1,804 initial cigarette instances confirmed to be counterfeit have been disposed of at Taiheiyo Cement Philippines Inc. (TCPI) facilities.
The Mighty, Marvels and Fort branded cigarettes were being seized in the port of Cebu and eventually expired in June 2021. The products arrived in two different shipments from China and ended up declared as table tops, cupboards and chairs.
“We have partnered with TCPI to use its facilities in accordance with Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero’s recommendations to dispose of expired cigarettes by burning them in cement mills,” reported Marc Anthony C. Patriarca, deputy district collector for the Organization.
TCPI’s environmental and basic safety officer, Dwight P. Avila, pressured that the sentencing course of action will be carefully monitored to ensure compliance with current environmental protocols.
Patriarca was assisted by Ronald D. Morillo, Head of Auction and Freight Disposal, and representatives from the Evaluation and Functions Coordination Group, Customs and Investigation Service, and Regulation Enforcement and Safety Assistance in overseeing the real conviction process.
Representatives from Japan Tobacco Worldwide and Philip Morris Fortune Tobacco Company were also current in the course of the trial.
Previous calendar year the port seized and ruined eight shipments of counterfeit cigarettes valued at 374 million pesos.
