The City of Carrollton has announced that residents will be eligible for up to $ 5,000 in home repair assistance under the Home Repair Emergency Program.

According to the city of Carrollton, the Emergency Home Repair Program is funded by the Federal Community Development Block Grant Program.

The CDBG program grants annual grants to states, cities and counties to develop communities through the provision of adequate housing and a suitable living environment.

The program is also working to expand economic opportunities for low- and middle-income residents, the city said.

The funds managed by the city’s Community Development Office are available to qualified owners for damage caused, for example, by the recent winter storms.

According to the city of Carrollton, repairs under the program must be urgent and endanger the safety of residents or the building, including burst pipes, damaged water heaters, electrical problems and damaged HVAC systems.

To be eligible, applicants must have owned their home for at least a year and it must be the person’s primary residence.

Household income cannot exceed 80% of the median income limit for the area, and the homeowner is not allowed to pay property or school taxes in Dallas or Denton Counties, the city of Carrollton said.

According to the City of Carrollton, applying for assistance and meeting all eligibility requirements does not guarantee that assistance will be provided.

Applications must be received and approved before the work is eligible, the city said. FEMA funded repairs are not eligible for the city’s assistance program.
