A RENFREWSHIRE church is raising a six-figure sum to repair its heating system.
Priests at St. Mirin’s Cathedral in Paisley hope to raise £ 100,000 to replace their old cauldron that was convicted last year.
The Church has now set up a JustGiving page after the clergy were unable to organize their usual fundraising drives due to lockdown restrictions.
Monsignor Joe Burke related The newspaper: “The annual maintenance check was carried out last October and the boiler was unfortunately condemned so that it could not be used. In addition, the pipes under the parking lot are now leaking.
“One of our parishioners, Paul McGrath, the director of Consilium Contracting Services, kindly provided us with free blown air heaters to get us through the Christmas services.
“They need to be fixed in the next few months because if we leave them by the end of summer we could have a second winter without heating.
“If someone wants to donate through the JustGiving page or can even throw a donation into the cathedral, that would be very grateful.
“However, we are very aware of the fact that many people are having problems right now, which is why we have not pushed this forward.”
