MARSHALL — After weighing its options for updating the heat and air conditioning systems in county buildings, Lyon County is pursuing a scaled-back version of the project.
Last week, county commissioners voted to move forward with a total of about $1.6 million in HVAC updates for buildings including the Lyon County Government Center, Law Enforcement Center and Lyon County Museum. The updates would be roughly half the cost of a proposal commissioners received in October.
Earlier this year, county commissioners approved an HVAC study on various county buildings. At their Oct. 18 meeting, commissioners received a proposal from Johnson Controls to make a total of $3.39 million in improvements to county buildings. The list of proposed improvements included replacing the government center boiler, and replacing air handlers at the LEC and the museum.
After discussion at the Oct. 18 meeting, commissioners directed the county Capital Committee to try and scale back the project.
At the county board’s regular meeting last week, County Administrator Loren Stomberg brought forward a pared-down list of proposed improvements, which still included the boiler and air handling unit replacements. The total price of options in the list Stomberg presented came to about $1.6 million.
Commissioners voted to move forward with the scaled-back options, using county American Rescue Plan Act funding.
