Ukraine scrambling to repair damaged heating infrastructure ahead of winter

HVAC Expert October 30, 2022

Ukraine is rushing to repair central heating infrastructure damaged or destroyed by Russian attacks to prepare for the full-fledged start of winter.

Russian shelling hit the roof of a boiler house in the city of Irpin near the capital Kyiv during fierce fighting in the early stages of the invasion. Most of its windows were shattered.

The damage has largely been mended, with workers now engaged in a finishing painting process.

The facility currently provides about 7,000 homes with hot water for heating use. But the boiler equipment still bears bullet marks.

Irpin’s deputy mayor said windows of the boiler’s room were replaced with the help of agencies, such as the Red Cross. The official added that the plan is to finish the repair work in early November.

Russian forces attacked thermal power and other energy infrastructure across Ukraine in October, causing blackouts.
