The Poudre School District may be forced to spend $100 million to add air conditioning to classrooms. More than 60% of the district’s classrooms don’t have air conditioning. This year, it’s forced schools to close early when fall brought some of the hottest days of the year. The district’s chief financial officer told the Coloradoan there’s timeline for the massive and expensive undertaking. Voters would likely have to approve a bond or tax increase to make it happen. A cheaper fix that will work some of the time–some are advocating to move the first day of school until after Labor Day. School started this year on August 16.
