LaSalle’s only recreation centre has been undergoing some much needed repairs and upgrades thanks to a six-figure funding boost.
The Vollmer Culture and Recreation Complex received a $398,200 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation last year. Since then the 120,000 square foot facility has had its ice rink refrigeration system and 12 rooftop HVAC units replaced and part of its roof repaired.
“Sports are vital to a community. Having a safe, up-to-date facility where our young people can play sports is important, and I am very pleased to see these improvements being made to LaSalle’s Vollmer Complex,” Essex MPP Anthony Leardi said in a statement on Saturday.
The capital upgrade project aims to extend the life of the recreation centre.
“This complex is a community hub that brings people together, strengthening social bonds and civic pride. We sincerely thank the Ontario Trillium Foundation for their support of the Town of LaSalle,” said Mayor Marc Bondy.
The Vollmer Complex at 2121 Laurier Parkway opened in 2008. It has two NHL size arenas, fully accessible washrooms, a swimming pool, fitness centre and meeting and activity rooms. It serves as the town’s evacuation site for displaced residents during emergency situations.
