Air conditioning coming to St. Joseph elementary schools; secondary schools to get air upgrades

HVAC Expert August 24, 2022

Children in the St. Joseph School District are closer to being able to enjoy some improved air quality.

The St. Joseph School Board approved a contract Monday with engineering firm Ignyte to install HVAC systems in the district’s elementary schools next summer. Superintendent Jenny Fee said the district’s secondary schools – which already have air conditioning – will receive air quality improvements as part of the project.

During the public comment portion of the meeting, one current district student said it can get very hot during the summer in the elementary schools.

“We’ve heard of that problem in some of the elementary schools over a lot of years,” Board President Barry Conybeare said. “It has taken a while to be able to find the resources to pull it together, but we’re excited to be able to bring better air quality and air conditioning to our elementary schools.”

The goal is to keep total costs under $10 million, using the district’s general fund and savings, according to reporting by The Herald-Palladium.
