WE’VE listed eight places people can stay cool in the heatwave in Southampton – and have a good time in the process.
Forecasters at the Met Office earlier issued a four-day amber heat warning with temperatures hitting 32C on Friday.
There is due to be a small drop to 30C on Saturday and 28 on Sunday.
While some people are lucky enough to enjoy cooling air in their own homes, many are escaping elsewhere to keep cool.

Listed below are Southampton’s air-conditioned buildings:
Westquay
Throughout the shopping centre and its dining/leisure counterpart, the Watermark aircon is pumped throughout to keep shoppers cool.
Mayflower Theatre
With upcoming performances of The Lightening Thief, We Will Rock You, and Bugsy Malone Southampton’s historic performance venue can entertain and fight off the heat.
Showcase Cinema
The chain previously offered redheads a free ticket in the last heatwave to help those “more vulnerable than most to the sun’s rays”.
The cinema remains cold and open to everyone needing to escape the sun.
IKEA
Not only for household wares and Swedish meatballs, Ikea is also air-conditioned.
SeaCity Museum & Southampton City Art Gallery
For history buffs and art connoisseurs.
Shirley & Woolston Libary
A spokesperson from Southampton city council said: “Shirley and Woolston have environmental air cooling, Lordshill has an air curtain.
“Southampton Central Library does not have air cooling but tends to stay slightly cooler as it’s larger and has plenty of shade.”
