HVAC and Passive House design

HVAC Expert July 18, 2022

Find out about the application of HVAC equipment in commercial Passive House projects at ARBS 2022.

The Passive House standard is a global building design and construction methodology that involves a rigorous assessment of the critical elements that make up a building to ensure a high level of confidence in outcomes such as building energy consumption, CO2 emissions, comfort and durability.

This rigour extends to the selection and installation of HVAC equipment that can account for up to 40 per cent of total building energy use in an average commercial building in Australia.

The standard has been deliberately developed to be data driven rather than favouring any particular designs or technologies.

This presentation provides some background to the Passive House standard and provides a case study for ventilation equipment to understand how specific performance metrics, test standards, and installation detail are applied to ensure a robust high-performance outcome is achieved.
