NORRISTOWN — More than $7.3 million was allocated recently for “mechanical upgrades” to One Montgomery Plaza in downtown Norristown.
Members of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners unanimously authorized the contract package during a board meeting last week for electrical and heating, ventilation and air conditioning contractors for the facility located at 425 Swede St. in Norristown.
A $6,871,000 agreement with Dolan Mechanical Inc. of Sicklerville, New Jersey, covered HVAC work, and a $475,000 agreement with Hobbs & Company Inc., of Boothwyn, Delaware County, was responsible for electrical work.
A request for proposals previously advertised only netted six responses, and the Montgomery County Department of Assets and Infrastructure endorsed the aforementioned companies, according to the contract.
Commissioners authorized a host of general contracts during the May 19 meeting. The agreements focused on several departments including the Planning Commission and Health and Human Services.
A $400,000 contract with Legal Aid of Southeastern Pennsylvania, based in Norristown, covered legal services for the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services’ Housing and Community Development Division.
Two firms responded to a request for proposals, and the department endorsed the local Legal Aid branch, according to the contract. The agreement stipulates two optional annual renewal terms.
Another $126,720 was designated to provide continuum of care and emergency shelter consulting services for the county health and human services department’s housing and community development division.
The six-figure contract with Change LLC, of West Chester, would provide services for two years, with another one-year renewal option, according to the contact. The Chester County firm was the sole respondent to an online request for proposals.
Additionally, a roughly $119,992 agreement with NV5 Inc., of Parsippany, New Jersey, supplied a consultant to conduct a feasibility study for the western section of the Cross County Trail.
A previously advertised request for proposals netted five submissions and views from 43 companies. However, the county planning commission endorsed the New Jersey business.
In other business, the county will be reimbursed another $1,321,000 for work on the Lafayette Street Extension project. The county has several existing supplemental reimbursement agreements with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation dating back to 2002.
Along with engineering, the county has entered into general reimbursement agreements with the state transportation agency for “for environmental clearance, preliminary engineering, final design and right-of-way for the project.” The most recent agreement alteration was made to “account for final right-of-way costs,” according to the contract.
There has been about $81,817,237 spent on the project, and the contract stipulates that “80 percent (is) reimbursable by federal highway funds and 20 percent to be paid by the county from its capital funds.”
The next Montgomery County Board of Commissioners meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. on June 2 on the eighth floor of One Montgomery Plaza in downtown Norristown. Those interested in attending the meeting can also do so virtually. For more information, visit montcopa.org.
